Bus/Transit Lanes in the ACT

ACT Motorcyclists permitted to use ‘bus only’ lanes

You may not be aware, but in the ACT motorcycles are permitted to use “Bus Lanes” (as are taxis and hire cars).

Unfortunately, there still seems to be a lot of confusion, and aggravation, about motorcycles using Bus Lanes, even though signage and road markings are clear.

MRA is interested to hear of any problems you have when using Bus Lanes. Please contact us.

    Hi Bob,
Checkout https://files.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/legacy/2966/2019%20Road%20Rules%20Handbook%20Screen.pdf (ACT Road Rules Handbook) and see page 37.
    Hope that helps.

    Hi
What happens if a motorcycle uses a bus lane but has to stop at a red light, the lights change to ‘bus only’ green signal and there is a bus behind?
Does the motorcycle hold up the bus or blow the red light?
I have seen this at the intersection of Athlon and Drakeford Drives.
    Your thoughts?

    Hi Nick,
You’re right that this doesn’t sound right.
If it is still an issue could you contact me on president@mraact.org.au please?
    Cheers
    Mark

Hello I’ve been riding motorcycles for over 20 years. I have been using bus lanes in the ACT during that time, recently I received a traffic infringement from a fixed red light camera because the bus lane signal went green and I proceeded through the intersection like I had done hundreds of times before. I am wondering if the ticket was wrongfully issued to me? Thanks
