COVID-19’s Impact on the MRA ACT

Like most businesses and organisations/associations, the current coronavirus pandemic COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) has had an impact on the Motorcycle Riders Association of the ACT.

  • Cancellation of the 2020 Blanket Run
  • Postponement of General Members Meetings
  • General Operational Impacts

Cancellation of the 2020 Blanket Run

It is with great trepidation that the MRA ACT have had to cancel the 2020 Blanket Run. This decision has not been made lightly.

With the federal and local government’s responses to COVID-19, we would be in breach of group gathering and social isolation rules, and we would be taking unnecessary risks with your health.

Despite all of this, winter doesn’t go away just because this coronavirus is here, and the homeless and disadvantaged still need your help! If you have already stocked up on blankets for donation, please contact your local Salvation Army depot to discuss safe drop-off.

The Salvation Army would however prefer financial support for this coming winter, as it could be much worse compared to previous years, with more people made homeless with the forecast economic impact. If you can, please see if you can budget a donation.

Postponement of General Members Meetings

Due to the closing of the Harmonie German Club which hosts our General Members Meetings, and the current requirement to abide social gathering and distancing rules, we are postponing General Members Meetings until further notice.

The General and Executive Committees will still be performing what duties are required to keep the association running, albeit in a reduced capacity due to increased child-minding and/or family duties.

If you have something to raise with the general membership of the MRA ACT, please send an email to the MRA ACT Secretary. If it is urgent, the committees will discuss the matter virtually and determine the most appropriate means to action; otherwise it will be added to the agenda backlog, and discussed once meetings resume.

General Operational Impacts

As highlighted above, there are further impacts to the General and Executive Committees due to change of working circumstance, extra child-minding duties, or increased family responsibilities. We are still working towards Motorcycle Awareness Week, and the 40th Annual Toy Run in December, but please understand that we are at reduced capability.

A huge thank you to the motorcycling community of the ACT and surrounding region for your support and understanding.
